I Nurtured Myself Today!

I won’t bore you with the boring details (husband out of town, tons of snow, kids home from school, a lot of work on my plate, aunt flo on her way), but suffice to say I had pretty stressful week last week. Food-wise I was fine, everything-else wise, I was a mess.

It came to a head on Friday morning when our driveway was so full of snow that I couldn’t back my SUV out of the garage to get to my cardiokickboxing class, which would have been the sweet escape that I neeeded from the stress that had been snowballing (no pun intended!) all week.

As I was trying to rock forwards and backwards in the snow, I could feel literally feel the knots forming in my back. I did eventually make it to class in the nick of time (via my husbands SUV), but the class only brought my stress level down from maybe my eyeballs to my nose.

So while my husband was sweet enough to give me a couple of good back rubs over the weekend, it’s not quite the same as when a professional massage therapist does it.

The soonest I could get an appointment was today. I went to a place right near my gym so I could go directly after my workout. I’d never been there before, but frankly, I didn’t care, it was a place close to my house that had the soonest available appointment. I was obsessed with getting this nurturing that my body so badly needed via a deep tissue massage.

One word – HEAVEN!!! The woman worked the knots that I knew I had, plus found some other ones. She stretched me out in ways I didn’t know I could be stretched, and though I’ll probably be sore tomorrow from all the digging, it will be a happy kind of sore.

What is your favorite way to nurture yourself when your body is super stressed?

One Day at a Time... Nurture myself... Awareness... Letting Go... Listen to my Body

one of my clients just gave me a gift certificate for a therapeutic massage-I’m going to try to make an appt for saturday-i usually only get them before a marathon, so this will be very indulgent…glad yours was so great! I’m looking forward to this!

don’t think of it as being indulgent, lisa, think of it as taking care of yourself ;). enjoy every second of it!!!
also, it’s interesting you get a message before a marathon because i used to get them like two days after a marathon or half.

god, I could totally use a massage. I think that I am going to go and put a face mask on and watch some online TV. that will have to do for now.

Glad you enjoyed your wondeful massage! I never realise how knotted up I am until I get one of those 10-minute back and shoulder rubs at the airport (I never think far enough ahead to book myself in for a *proper* massage!) They seem to know exactly where all the knots are and pummel me to bits! It’s actually quite painful for the rest of the day, but the next day is bliss!

i’m “lucky” enough to feel the knots, so i always know when it’s time. the timing somehow always coordinates when my husband is out of town, imagine that? =) still those rubs at the airport sound awesome, i will have to keep that in mind!

I laugh. I know it sounds odd, but when I get wound up I have two ways to drop that tension (seeing as I don’t have food any more): crying and laughing. Being a person who hates to cry–and recently I have been a lot because of the overwhelming stress, which I used to eat–I sometimes just realize how small it is in the scheme of things and start laughing.

I do want to go to a salon and get a facial because it is very relaxing, but I don’t quite have the money. So, I’m working on laughing until I can get enough money for the salon treatment.

I haven’t gotten a massage that didn’t give me a migrane 🙁 It feels good while they’re doing it, but maybe I need to “instruct” them on my body better? Or, chose the place carefully? Idk…I’ll have to think about how I nurture myself…with budget issues, I don’t think I’ve been doing it! How sad, right? 🙂

oh man, a migraine?!?! that’s a shame, diana! i don’t think a massage is worth a migraine. what about what jess posted as a comment – a good laugh or a good cry?

Good for you – you deserve it!! I LOVE massages….haven’t had one in a few months. I get terrible, terrible knots in my upper back – it’s where I hold all of my tension. Hopefully if I get a decent tax refund, I’ll schedule another!

thanks! i love ’em too. i get those exact same knots! and even when things are no longer stressful, the knots remain until they are rubbed out.

I would go and get massages sparingly when I lived with my mom. They cost quite a bit, and being that my fiance knows how to give massages I could always ask for one from him if need be. I agree about the laughing and crying as great stress relievers too.. though I’d rather laugh! 🙂
