Favorite Protein Bar – Genisoy

Just wanted to share with you the main protein bar that I have been eating just about every day for years.

They are called Genisoy Soy Protein Bars and they come in a handful of flavors. Some of my favs are chocolate fudge brownie and cafe mocha. Some other flavors they have are: cookies and cream, crispy chocolate mint, creamy peanut yogurt, chunky peanut butter fudge. They also have “organic bars”, “protein crunch bars” and “ultra bars” that I have yet to try.

I’m someone who, once they find something they love, sort of sticks with it, which is why I haven’t ventured out and tried their other products.

They are a nice size bar at 61.5 grams each. I eat them as my mid-morning snack. The chocolate fudge brownie bar ,which I currently have, is 240 calories, 7 grams of fat, 32 carbs, 2 grams of fiber and 14 grams of protein. It satiates me and best of all, it tastes like a treat. It’s one of the things I eat that keeps me from feeling deprived, to help keep the binge-monster at bay. (I especially like to refrigerate them an hour or so before eating them, because then it takes me longer to eat it.)

They are pretty easy to find. I can get them at my normal grocery store, as well as Whole Foods and The Vitamin Shoppe, so they are not limited to just on-line shopping, though you can buy them on-line from The Vitamin Shoppe.

And nope, no-one from Genisoy asked me to write about this, but if you are reading this Genisoy people, I wouldn’t be too upset if you sent me some samples that I could give out to my readers. 😉

Anyone else out there eat these too?

Totally unrelated, I wanted to give a shout out to Jody @ Fit at 52. She is doing a giveaway about a really funny book about “the change”.

Another link to Jody’s site… she is doing a great awareness drive, in conjunction with GE, where people make pledges to make their lives healthier. Check it out here

I used to eat them…I don’t remember why I stopped necessarily. They were good. I’ve also enjoyed the Kashi GoLean bars too. Both, on some of their flavors, have a certain “powdery” like consistency at times, but never enough to turn me off to them.

I’ve been more into Larabar from an energy perspective because they are smaller, go well on hikes, and don’t have a coating that melts.

No matter…its all good…thanks for sharing.

I have never had these bars before. I am a huge fan of Kashi Go Lean and also Luna bars. I tend to stick to bars that are less than 200 calories. However these sound delicious. 🙂

Hi. I’ve tried Genisoy but they’re not a favorite. I like LUNA bars a lot (180-190 calories each–and there are mini bars which are 80 calories which are good to keep in one’s purse for the I-don’t-want-to-be-starving-at-dinner-in-an-hour tiding one over but not filling one up needs.) Clif also makes MOJO bars which are 200-210 calories, and sweet and salty mixture.

They’re all good for not wrecking one’s blood sugar, pretty balanced and really delicious! I have a family history of type II diabetes and was diagnosed as “pre-” at one point so I have to watch sugar/glycemic balance.

I love your blog. I had laxative-purging type bulimia from ages 17-25, stopping twenty years ago. In my late 30s I started to get kind of plump (as in a 27 BMI.) In my early 40s I developed hypertension (as in 160/100) and had to reduce my weight to reduce the hypertension or go on meds.

It worked. I wrote down what I ate, ate healthier, lost 4 inches off my waist and 4 off my hips, which is 3 sizes.

BUT my problem is that my efforts to eat right and slim down made me kind of obsessive. I’ve maintained my weight where it is with a 1/2 pound fluctuation for a long time, with a minor 5 pound blip up during the holidays–I’m at my natural weight. But I still fret about staying there–and the bulimia messed up satiety for me. I can now figure out physical hunger and start there–but I typically end up feeling bloated and overfull at the end of a meal unless I just plan to eat x at different meals so none of them go overboard–intutitive eating evades me.

So I’m reading ED sites and trying to figure out how to keep my weight healthy without worrying about eating things I don’t know the calories of, obsessing when my little electronic food log goes over the calories I “should” eat for the day even though I know it’s longterm average that counts, etc. And I love your blog and bookmarked it. Thanks for sharing your journey.

i’m glad that you wrote. congrats on your successes!

although i’m sorry that you are a fellow ED suffererer. i totally hear you with the obsessiveness. i think that is part of the whole ED genre.

from what i’ve read, it’s very typical that you would have trouble with the satiety issue. there is nothing wrong with the entire intuitive eating thing evading you right now. i don’t necessarily follow all of it either. i think intuitive eating is a very personalized thing, not necessarily one-size-fits-all. i think you have to go with what works and is comfortable for you. if you need to be a bit obsessisve for a while until you get to know your satiety cues, i don’t think there is anything wrong with that. no rush, one day at a time. jmho.

thanks for stopping by. i hope you’ll let me know how you are doing

I’m not a protein bar person, and I’ve never tried Genisoy, but I’ve had the LUNA s’mores bar and I actually REALLY love it. I like getting them sometimes as a treat. It doesn’t get much better than chocolate/graham/marshmallows!

Thank you so much for this review! I’ve never tried these bars, but I’ll definitely look for them the next time I’m at Whole Foods. Sometimes I have trouble with certain bars being triggering, but not usually with the bars that are filling like this one. And all of those flavors sound amazing!

i know, there are so many bars out there! i don’t think this will trigger for you, i think you will find it satisfying, not feeling like you will need more sweet things afterwards. please let me know if you try one!
