Balancing it All

I think via my ‘blog break’ that I have finally found my happy medium of balancing my life with my blogging.

Since October, I have had a lot of things that I’ve been trying to keep juggling in the air – working two part-time jobs from home, being present for my husband and kids, focusing on my ED recovery, as well as blogging about said recovery.

I realized that I need to be able to help my kids with homework, go have a catch with my son, enjoy time with my husband, or heaven forbid take a minute to myself, without feeling totally stressed that I wasn’t posting or reading people’s awesome blogs. While I’m sure many of you can do all that and more, for me, it was very stressful.

I still really want to be part of the ED/weight loss/fitness/health blog community, but I have learned in the last month that the blogging has to be part time instead of the full-time endeavor that it had become very quickly.

I am incredibly grateful for this wonderful community. I doubt I would be where I am today (29 months binge-free!) without all of the thoughtful/insightful posts that I’ve read on your blogs, and comments I’ve received from you on mine. You have all touched, educated and inspired me and I hope that continues, even if on a part-time basis.

So with all that being said, I will probably continue to do what I’ve been doing for the past few weeks — which is to post once or twice a week, as well as read blogs once or twice a week.

I realize I’ve lost a lot of readers by doing this, so to those of you who are sticking with me, thanks so much! I definitely appreciate your support as I continue on my recovery journey and now am training for the triathlon in August. I hope I can still be there for you as well, even if it’s only part time.

On an entirely different note, because of all the spam that I have been getting recently, I decided to install one of those “CAPTCHA” code things that you will need to use for my comments. I know it can be a pain in the rear deciphering those letters/numbers, but I’m trying to cut down on the junk comments from people who aren’t even reading the blog (penis enlargement, anyone?)

That completely makes sense. I totally get the all or nothing thinking when it comes to blogging. Balance is a hard thing for many of us. I think it’s great that you are finding a healthy balance in all areas of your life. I’ll read no matter how often you post 🙂

    Oh…and I hate spam!!! So rude…

ugh, the spam started out slowly, but then it got out of control and i had to do something about it.

Gosh, I never saw a penis comment. Hope I don’t! Should I leave one? Nope.
Good on the binge free zone. And good to *see* you even if only occasionally.
Do what you need to do for you.

I know what you mean. If I really wanted a larger penis, I’d search the internet! How many hits do they get from random posts like that?
Great for you! It’s time to live your life. No need to worry about writing about it if you’re not living it! Do what’s best for you 🙂

Sometimes you have to put your priority straight and determine what is more benefical. Like you had noticed I haven’t blogged in forever due to my current events in my life. It is rough to find that perfect balance.

Kudos to you for doing what you need to do! Family and self always comes first. I personally can relate as I got caught up in so many blogs that I couldn’t keep up. I trimmed the ones down to my favs (yours included). I’ve also not freaked out when I can’t post every single day. More like every other day is working better for me. Can’t wait to read up on your triathalon. You are such an inspiration!

thanks, bobbie! i’m sure i don’t have to tell you, or any of the moms out there, that we all want to do everything and be great at all of it. it’s tough admitting that we have limitations and sometimes need to step back and re-evaluate what our priorities are. i’m so glad to hear from you, and most everyone else, that they too are having a hard time keeping up with everything. i’m glad that you are finding your balance as well!
my triathlon…well, i just swam 20 laps in the pool this morning, immediately followed by 40 minutes on the stationery bike. can i be both tired and mentally energized at the same time? =)

I absolutely hear you on this post! I’ve gone from blogging every day and commenting on at least 90% of the blogs I follow every day, to blogging every few days (more often if I can) and only commenting on about half the blogs I follow. Sometimes life just gets in the way! I do have a problem with guilt and feel bad about not reading blogs and commenting more, but that’s something I need to deal with!

yes, life does get in the way, patsy. it took me some time to realize that i was just stretching myself too thin trying to do it all and do it as well as i thought i was expected to do it. (gosh, did that make any sense?) i hear ya on the guilt. i’m there too, but trying to work through it.

I’m trying to spend less time in front of the computer and more time living life so I’ve cut down on commenting but I’m still reading. It really is all about balance. Wouldn’t it be great if we had that many arms to do all the multi-tasking?

    [Reply]

    love2eatinpa Reply:

lol! i would love to have that many arms and perhaps even a clone of myself would be nice too =). our moms were lucky there were no computers while we were growing up, huh? i’m glad to hear you have found your balance and are spending more time living life!

I totally relate to your sentiments. It often seems counterintuitive to promote a healthy lifestyle to others when I spend so much time in front of a computer. I would rather read fewer posts that are more heartfelt.

Btw, I responded to your triathlon comment. I am having breathing issues, too!!

I’m SO glad you’ve found that balance! It’s something I’m still working on, too. I think I just have to realize it’s perfectly okay not too post X number of times/week, or comment every single day. It’s more fun if to have that approach, anyway!

Wow, 29 months! When you say it like that, it is TRULY amazing how far you have come. I’m so thankful you’ll still be blogging, as I always look forward to your insightful posts. And I’ll even be willing to type in the CAPTCHA code, too. 🙂 LOL @ the penis comment! I always feel….dirty when I read those?! Even when I know it’s Spam!

thanks, holly! it’s still a little hard not posting/reading/commenting because i’m someone who doesn’t like to see messages in my inbox and not respond to them right away. i need to remind myself that everything is not urgent. i’m the one who makes it hard for myself, stressing myself out over it. but then, i hate to have it build it because then it feels overwhelming. *sigh*
and thanks for your kind words about the 29 months and my posts. =) i know, the CAPTCHA thing is a drag. spam is still getting through though! argh!

Just catching up on your posts. Totally get the whole refueling/IE fine line. It’s so tough, because obviously we now there are times when our bodies truly NEED to eat, but I don’t always trust myself to listen to the need and then stop.
